No Kings June 14, 2025

1,000 in Holliston:

300 in Millis:

Roughly 325-350 very happy people attended. People of all ages were out with a wonderful array of signs. Most passersby honked and gave a thumbs up. There were minimal thumbs down/ fingers displayed and only one incident (that I was aware of ) of exuberant profanity. There was a bit of response to that from standout participants, but I was nearby and counseled calm and kindness as oppsed to responding in kind. Overall it was a very successful standout!

200+ in Mendon:

I believe the No Kings Mendon protest on June 14 was the biggest protest Mendon has ever seen! What a GREAT protest! We lined up Route 16 on both sides, we stood at all four corners, as cars and trucks were streaming by with tons of honks, waving and thumbs up. We held imaginative and colorful signs and held flags large and small! IN THE RAIN! And amazingly, there were about 214 participants over the whole event!

We made new friends and neighbors, chatting away while the drizzle came down. We were there with a purpose: to claim our democracy, our rule of law, our constitution, so a little rain wasn't going to stop us!

The response from the traffic driving by was extremely supportive, it was a validating symbiosis: people connecting with shared purpose, whether in cars and trucks or standing on the sidewalk.

Thank you, thank you for standing up for our democracy and declaring NO KINGS! There will be future events in Mendon and elsewhere, so I encourage you to continue to participate and show up! See you again in the streets!

200+ in Sherborn

I knew this was going to be a remarkable morning when my family and I showed up at the Sherborn Town Green at 9:15 and people were already arriving. And despite the increasing rain people stayed well past 11:30. It was inspiring to see the mix of ages at the event with some of the older attendees bringing chairs and hanging in with the rest of the crowd as the weather became more inclement. Many people approached me express their gratitude for this event as it made them feel connected and inspired.

The police were great! An officer came up to me early on and gave me his card with his cell phone number and told me “We’re here to protect you so if anyone causes trouble call this number, not 911.” He introduced me to another officer. There was a vehicle parked at the UU church to direct people. I think it is hugely important to establish relationships with local police officers. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about disruption given the difficulty people on both ends of the political spectrum have had with communicating.  There is so much rage out there, unfortunately stoked by disinformation and irresponsible, avaricious “news” outlets.
